So, on August 10th my doctor had scheduled me for an induction at the hospital. I was more than ready to have this sweet little boy and in my mind induction meant having the baby. Boy was I wrong. After 12 hours at the hospital triage, 2 applications of gels, 3 hours of walking around, and then they decide to send me home and hope labor came naturally. I was exhausted and frustrated that this was how it was being handled. They told me it was because I wasn't progressing quickly enough but come to find out it was because they didn't have any room to keep me. WHAT!? For someone who had been battling gestational diabetes (never had diabetes before) and was told how important it was for me to NOT go past m due date, pissed is a nice way of describing how I felt. My body had been through hell with the induction and I was to see my doctor if I hadn't delivered him yet that following week.
So, my husband and I go to my appointment that next day ready for some questions to be answered. My doctor was surprised the induction failed and recommended we went to a hospital that had more vacancy. We were both irritated seeing as how we were told many different things at how this was supposed to go not to mention family had taken time off work and drove down to be with us. So, she scheduled another induction at a different hospital. It was not ideal seeing as how we had never been to this other hospital or seen the labor and delivery suites or recovery suites but we knew we had to do what was best for myself and the baby.
The second induction was a long, drawn out and painful process. 36 hours of labor and finally our sweet little Aiden Rote Stoeckel was born on 8/13/14 at 6:17 am. He weighed 8 pounds even, 20 3/4 inches long and healthy. I was exhausted, in pain but glowing at the site of our son finally being here.
**WORD OF ADVICE: If your doctor discusses doing an induction get all the information that you can about the hospitals policy. Ask if being sent home can happen and what the vacancy of that hospital is. The more you know, the more prepared you'll be and won't make the mistake of telling family and friends that your little one is on his way. After surviving 2 inductions, and almost having a c-section I now know what can happen and be prepared if I get into this situation again.
Hope this helps! More posts will follow about my recovery and first 2 weeks of being a brand new mommy.
xoxo,
Alex
