~Final major cleaning. My husband and I did this last Saturday and spent 8 1/2 hours doing it. I'm talking getting the carpets/couches cleaned, washing floor boards, bleaching, cleaning out the refrigerator, freezer, pantry, oven, microwave, etc. This house is immaculate and ready for baby. Now I feel better as we approach the big date and all I have to do is keep it clean as we go day by day which isn't hard.
~Grocery shopping. After going through the refrigerator, freezer and pantry (throwing away things and re-organizing) I did inventory of what we already had and whatever we didn't that was on my "meal plan" list (see post below) we went out and got everything. I posted the plan on the refrigerator door to remind me of what I had planned for that first week. ALSO, don't forget to get your husband/significant other some snacks to get them through the labor and delivery process. Things such as: water, gatorade, red bull, yogurt, chips, nuts, and I packed a few "Hormel Rev Wraps." He loves them and they are packed with protein to keep him full and energized. I already packed the lunch pail with the refrigerated stuff and its sitting in the refrigerator ready to be grabbed at any moment. The other stuff like the chips and nuts are in a plastic grocery bag sitting by the hospital bags ready to grab as well. Our hospital has a mini fridge in each room, but if yours does not you can always ask the nurse and they usually have one regular sized fridge that everyone uses.
~Newborn photos. Luckily our hospital actually has a company that comes through (with your permission of course) and takes pictures of the special moments for you. At the end you can order and pay for them instead of making your husband/significant other/family try to capture everything. If your hospital does not offer something like this you can always look into hiring someone who specializes in this type of photography. There are a lot of talented people out there and it doesn't hurt to do some research. If hospital shots are not what you're wanting, and you just want the sweet pictures of your newborn in a studio setting, now is the time to set that up while you have the energy and can take time to look at their previous work.
~Pamper yourself. No, I'm not kidding. Go get a hair cut/blow dry. There's nothing better than having the feeling of fresh and healthy hair. Besides, you don't know when the next time you'll be able to slip away to have your hair cut. Another great thing to do is set up one final prenatal massage! All of these aches and pains that you've delt with for the past few months have taken its toll and it feels amazing to be rubbed from head to toe! It'll help relieve a lot of tension and stress you've been carrying around especially trying to get things done and ready before baby gets here. And last but not least, go get a mani/pedi combo. Those hands and feet have been working hard and nothing makes you feel more like a woman (instead of a human incubator) like getting your nails and toes done. I'd recommend getting shellac. It'll last longer and usually salons have a 2 week guarantee. So any chips or snags in the polish they'll fix for free.
~Car detailing. For the most part my car is usually pretty clean. But my husband and I decided it might be a good idea to get it detailed inside and out. Especially since we sometimes travel with our dog. After having it detailed, my husband installed the carseat, and loaded the stroller in the back for me. Its a good feeling knowing the only thing left to do is throw our hospital bags in the back and then bring baby home. Oh, and don't forget to GO FILL YOUR GAS TANK UP! I actually had a friend that went into labor and her car was on "empty" and they had to stop on the way to the hospital. So, try to avoid that at all costs.
These things have kept me pretty occupied this weekend/week. Hope this helps you too!
